BREAKING NEWS: avoid a 1% penalty on eRx

RBS continues to be a leader in promptly sharing new information with its clients. Recent changes have been made to Medicare’s Electronic Prescribing (eRx) Incentive Program and the deadline to file exemptions has been extended to November 1st. Our tenacious attention to detail will mean a substantial savings for our clients. We are working closely with our doctors to make sure that all of the necessary information will be submitted before the November 1st deadline. Immediate Release:
CMS proposed and finalized changes to the 2011 Electronic Prescribing (eRx) Incentive Program which was displayed in the Federal Register on August 31, 2011. The Final Rule provided additional significant hardship exemption categories for the 2012 eRx payment adjustment.
The four new hardship exemptions include (New Opt Out Reasons):
- Eligible professionals who register to participate in the Medicare or Medicaid EHR Incentive Program and adopt Certified EHR Technology;
- Inability to electronically prescribe due to local, state, or federal law or regulation (e.g., controlled substances);
- Limited prescribing activity; or
- Insufficient opportunities to report the electronic prescribing measure due to limitations in the measure's denominator.
Hardship submission must be completed using the new CMS provider website called the Quality Reporting Communication Support Page.
Submission of the significant hardship exemption request must be completed by November 1st, 2011.
